Veined Rapa Whelk Gastropod Seashell

You've come across a beautiful, delicate shell that once was a home to a large invasive predatorial species, the large Veined Rapa Whelk. A snail, mollusc or whelk- whichever name you prefer to use. Veined Rapa Whelks are also referred to as Asian Rapa Whelks. The shell itself is rounded as pictured, giving a coiled "whirl" effect, reflecting an ongoing spinning wheel. The hollowness inside its deep umbilicus of course where the invertebrate once lived. Rapas used these shells as their defense mechanism to prey upon native whelks due to having the advantage of this strong, thick shell. It was easy to attack local whelks vs local whelks attacking them.
